OL_Monitor Guide

The first time you run the OL_Monitor you will need to set up some options.  If you just want to try it out and see what happens you can accept most of the default options.  The first screen that loads is "Ol_Options":

The most essential entries here are:
Hospital ID:
Worksheet:
If you always start the macro from the "FUNCTION: " prompt this is all you need to get started.  Sometimes however, just like all of us, the macro may press enter one too many times and get kicked out to the login prompt.  So it's a good idea to enter some login information in case this happens.  If you are extremely paranoid about saving a password you can leave this entry blank and the macro will ask you for it when it refreshes.

You can skip ahead to Step 4 at this point.  Below the rest of the options are explained.
Sounds must be in .wav file format.  Pictures should be about 32 X 32 pixels and in standard bitmap format.

When you press save your options will be saved to the registry and you will have to restart the macro.

This is the new Patient ID Control option.  Sometimes the patient name is so long it spills over into the patient ID number field.  The macro compensates for this up to a point but was not perfect.  To activate and use the new logic, you must specify a maximum ID # length, and any text prefixes that might occur in a patient ID # at your facility.  Otherwise these prefixes will be removed from the patient ID #.  Th maximum ID length is an integer usually 6 or 9.  Note: any text suffixes will be included as long as you have set your maximum ID length.

You can now move on to Step 3.  The "Notes" section below goes into detail over many of the features.

Notes:

Refresh Interval: The OL_MONITOR automatically refreshes its information from the OL log at the interval entered in the options screen (ex. Every 30 seconds). This is a huge improvement over manually printing out the OL log and going over the tests listed because by the time you have checked progress on a few tests several of the items on your printout may have already been resulted, at this point the task is already wasting your time.

Overdue Highlighting: Overdue tests will be highlighted every few seconds to draw attention to them. Turn around times must be established for individual tests using the OL_Configurator for this to work. Also, the Highlight Overdues or Both option buttons must be selected.

AutoScroll: When the list of tests spills off the screen, the OL_Monitor will automatically page down before the refresh interval expires so that all the tests can be seen. Useful when the monitor you are looking at is not close to the pc the macro is running on. For this to work the AutoScroll or Both option button must be selected.

Sound Alerts: After refreshing, the macro can be configured to play an appropriate wave file for the following events:

  • Appearance of stat tests: When the floor orders a stat test it will appear on the log, this in turn triggers a sound from the macro when it sees that the number of stat tests on the log has increased.

  • Overdue Collections: A turn around time can be established with the OL_Configurator for certain priority collections. The macro will play the wave file if this time limit is exceeded to let you know a cla may need some help. The overdue sounds need not be played every single refresh cycle, as this can become annoying, this time interval between sounds can be set up in the options screen.

  • Overdue Tests: Turn-around times can be established based on specific tests and priorities. These must also be setup in the OL_Configurator. Not all tests that we perform are given a turn around time limit in the OL_MONITOR, only time critical tests. If a test has exceeded its turn around time, the wave file will be played. Any test can have 2 turn-around-times, 1 for stats/asaps, and 1 for routine priorities. The overdue sounds need not be played every single refresh cycle, as this can become annoying, this time interval between sounds can be set up in the options screen.

  • Test completion sound: As techs/clas complete work and the list shrinks in size, a sound can play for each completed test. This should be a short, non-annoying sound that hopefully promotes a sense of accomplishment.

  • Pending list clear sound: On the rare occasion that the pending list is COMPLETELY clear, an appropriate wave file will play.

Daily Reminder Sound : This is a very simple alarm clock type option.  You can have a sound play at certain times every day, such as a reminder to do daily maintenance. The sound is played once at the beginning of the hour (in military time) that you choose. You can set these values to 1 to disable the option.

Show Taskbar : The OL_Monitor dialog takes up the entire display by default. This can make working with other programs in windows difficult.  Select show taskbar to see the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

Detect runaway logs : Some sites using the newer version of Sunquest are getting "runaway logs". Logs with a single test per page, hundreds  of pages long.  This options prevents these logs from being loaded and recaptures the log.
